Some of the test and monitoring equipment for the military was the best that could be produced at the time and no expense was spared in its construction. At the budget-built end, there were the countless test-gadgets intended for radio repairmen or radio hobbyists that might seem to barely be able to perform the intended task but clever designs sometimes resulted in very useful test instruments. Biddle of Philadelphia imported these instruments and each box has his tag attached. Biddle was also a very early major builder and supplier of wireless equipment with Reginald Fessenden being one of his prominent customers over a long period of time. At the turn of the last century, many precision measurements had to be calculated because the measurement couldn’t be made directly since many of the instruments we take for granted today hadn’t been developed. A known precision resistance allowed one part of the equation to be selected and the remainder was then calculated. These types of boxes were used in DC Resistance bridge circuits for precise measurements of an unknown resistance Wheatstone Bridge circuits or in other circuits for calculating current flow, low voltage levels or comparison evaluations. Many experiments were carried out at Mt. Wilson and the facility there had has a lot of very early test gear. I was given these boxes by my old Virginia City friend, Maynard Clark who worked at Mount Wilson Observatory Maynard designed much of the computer software for the various telescope drive systems at Mt.

One of the higher end models from Morgan Monroe and about the best value I could imagine in a solid wood acoustic.
Not only is the top solid Sitka spruce, the sides and back are solid Indian rosewood, in addition to ebony fretboard and bridge. Additionally, it’s nicely presented with a gloss finish, Herringbone and ring rosette and Herringbone soundboard trim, and bound body, neck, and headstock. Other specs include size body of all solid woods, hand-carved parabolic bracing in authentic vintage prewar forward X-pattern, Martin scale
I promise the tables will still be there after you finish reading. We also received a report of a tweed 5G12 Concert. The 5G12 Concert is the earliest version from very late and early so the existence of a tweed example, while extremely rare, is certainly plausible since Fender was making lots of tweed amps during the same time period. Working at FMI — I was able to interview a fellow who wishes to remain anonymous who worked at Fender in in the amp department.

The series comprised the single pickup, single cutaway F , the dual pickup single cutaway F , and the double cutaway dual pickup F All models came in a single finish, described by Martin as Honey Burst, and were offered with an optional bigsby tailpiece. The bound body was of a laminate construction, with the finished top being maple. The neck was mahogany with a rosewood fretboard and a traditional Martin headstock and logo with three-per-side tuners, and joined the body at the 14th fret.
The F Series were the only Martin to ever use plexiglas bridges, possibly the only guitars ever to do so. The reason plexiglas was used was that a Martin board member at the time owned a plexiglas factory and was keen to get into the guitar hardware business. Close examination of the rear of the F in the gallery below will show that the double cutaway was acheived by retaining the body heel to the 14th fret — a creative but somewhat unusual solution to create a double cut.
Typical Martin attention to design detail is clear — the unique pickup cover cutaways and the complementary designs on the tailpiece of both the chrome trapeze of the stop tail and the black panel on the Bigsby tailpiece, the body high visibility dots to show the position of each volume and tone control are just some examples. The F Series were made between late and , and followed the normal Martin 6-digit serial number sequence, shared with all other instruments from this period.
The serial number can be found with a little help from a flashlight inside the upper F-Hole. All the normal rules apply, original condition is paramount for an F to be collectible. Personally my favorite is the F , it plays extremely well, with a jazzy feel and to my eye looks the most balanced. There is, however, one point to warn would be collectors about:

Pilot Electric Manufacturing Company also claimed to be “The World’s Largest Radio Parts Plant” in the twenties and they did build all of the parts supplied with their kits. Though not the first Shortwave receiver kit offered by Pilot, the three-tube “Wasp” was certainly their first really popular Shortwave receiver kit. The plug-in coils selected the tuning ranges that covered meters to 17 meters or about kc up to

The source-date code on a pot is a 6 or 7 digit code impressed into the casing of the potentiometer. For speakers this code can be 5, 6, 7 or 8 digits long, and it’s ink-stamped or paint-stamped on the “bell housing” of the speaker. In either case, the code works the same. The first 3 digits on a pot, or the first 2, 3 or 4 digits on a speaker are the source or manufacturer code.
The remaining 3 or 4 digits are the date code. In 3 digit dates code, the 1st digit is the last digit of the year. On 4 digits date codes, the 1st and 2nd digits are the last two digits of the year. In either case, the remaining 2 digits are the week of manufacture 01 to With this in mind, remember if the last two digits of the source-date code are greater than 52, you’re not looking at the source-date code!
Also it’s worth mentioning: On 3 digit date codes, you have to “guess” the decade of the pot or speaker. Usually this isn’t too difficult. Examples of Source-Date Codes.
At that time, it was suggested that there might be as few as four replicas made. These guitars have serial numbers, but they are NOT serialized 1 through Each guitar John Cruz makes, regardless what kind of guitar, gets the next serial number in line. He mentioned to me that Jimmie was getting three of the guitars.
The Martin F-Series were Martin’s first true electric guitars, although by no means Martin’s first archtop, the design reminiscent of the F series (non-electric) F-7 and F-9 archtops of the ’s.

The Fender Bassman is a bass amplifier introduced by Fender during Initially intended to amplify bass guitars, the 5B6 Bassman was used by musicians for other instrument amplification, including the electric guitar, harmonica, and pedal steel s being a popular and important amplifier in its own right, the Bassman also became the foundation on which.
About Guitars Buying a new guitar is a considerable investment for most of us. An instrument is all about inspiration. You are the musician and the guitar is the tool you use to express your feelings and music. This has nothing to do with what models you choose or how much they cost. Some basic knowledge about the different wood types, neck and body profiles, pickups etc will help you in making the best choice. However, over the last decade or so, the MIMs has gotten a considerable face lift and the overall quality is very high.
In fact, the reason why they are cheaper, ha sless to do with quality but rather lower labour costs, cheaper type of laquer and apply methods etc.

But that related only to Gibson guitars made from to Present. But, with more than 75 years of shipping records in the Gibson books, and dozens of variations on numerical schemes used over the years, serial numbers sometimes do little to shed light on the origin of a mysterious Gibson. With vintage Gibsons selling at auction for as much as half a million dollars, Davidson will sometimes roll up his sleeves and poke around in the ledgers, but only as time allows.

History[ edit ] The 5B6 Bassman[ edit ] During , the Fender 5B6 Bassman amplifier was introduced as a combo amplifier cabinet that included the amplifier chassis combined with one 15″ speaker. It was designed to generate 26 watts at an 8 ohm impedance load, and offered a cathode-based bias. In the cabinet designs were changed to the so-called “Wide Panel” design, with a 5 inch wide tweed covered panel above and below a wider swath of grill cloth. Fender ceased production of 5B6 Bassman amplifiers during the spring of The 5D6 was a major departure from the earlier 5B6 Fender Bassman model.
The circuit had two innovations:

The three tubes were usually A and the circuit used a regenerative detector followed by two stages of transformer coupled AF amplification. The kit included detailed instructions along with an assembly drawing. Builders were warned to adhere to the wiring layout shown on the drawing or performance would suffer. The circuit was built on a bakelite board for the chassis and a mahogany colored bakelite panel.
The “Wasp” was introduced just as Shortwave Broadcasting was beginning to grow and everyone wanted to tune in to stations located in foreign countries.

The Serial Number Problem The difficulty in determing where your SRV Strat fits into the production line lies in the fact that Fender serial numbering, apparently, has only to do with internal stock control and not particular dates of manufacture.
